12-Year-Old Student Suspended for Dealing Junk Food at School

News Of Da Day :)

UK: 12-year-old Joel Bradley has been suspended after the school caught him selling junk food for a second time. Joel was reportedly marking up his wares as much as 50 pence per item and making up to £15 per day..

"We are a healthy school... If parents are not happy then they are perfectly free to take their children to a school that allows pupils to sell these things and allows a father to sell them outside on the pavement," said head teacher Dave Forshaw.

Creature Of The Month

Hamerkop (Scopus umbretta)
The Hamerkop (Hammer-head in English) is named from the shape made by its crest and bill. The hamerkop is neither a stock nor a heron, but shows characters of both. It builds enormous domed nest of mud, sticks and grass in a tree.
Found throughout Africa south of the Sahara and Arabia. Seen on farm dams and any areas of water.
The Hamerkop forages by wading in shallow water, stirring the mud with its feet to disturb small fish and tadpoles. Sometimes
seen flying low over the water snatching food with its bill.

My point of view!!!!!!!

I belive in a social system that consist of decentralised, self-sufficient communities in which ppl work close to home and can govern themselves, and where they can develop thier own personal and communal identities; communities in which they can be happier than they would have been otherwise in the mass-existence of a centralised metropolitan life.

MIA PAPER PLANES official video

M.I.A. (An accomplished visual artist by 2002, M.I.A. came to prominence in early 2004 through file-sharing of her singles "Galang" and "Sunshowers"

Maya Arulpragasam spent the early years of her life in a number of places. She moved from London, England, to her parents' native Sri Lanka at the age of six months, only to relocate to Madras, India. During a return stay in Sri Lanka, the civil war taking place within the country escalated to the point where Arulpragasam began to lose family members and friends. She didn't see her father -- a devout and active separatist as part of the Tamil rebellion, which has clashed with the Sinhalese majority -- often throughout these years, but her life stabilized once she and the rest of her family were able to make it back to London. As a student, Arulpragasam became involved in the arts and published a monogram book of her paintings -- titled M.I.A. and heavily influenced by the Tamil rebellion. She later connected with Elastica, providing the photography and graphics for the group's second album, and she shot footage during their American tour. Elastica's support act, Peaches, introduced her to the Roland MC-505, a sequencer she became familiar with after returning home. Steve Mackey (Pulp) and Ross Orton became involved after hearing a demo; they made adjustments to "Galang," a song that was then pressed into 500 copies and released, under the name M.I.A., by the Showbiz label. It didn't take long for the song -- a bold, righteous amalgamation of hip-hop, electro, dancehall, grime, and baile funk -- to make an impact with DJs. She wound up signing a contract with XL, which re-released the single and, eventually, debut album Arular in 2005. Anticipation for the release was considerable, only heightened by the Piracy Funds Terrorism mixtape she put together with DJ Diplo. Her second album, Kala, was released in 2007 and was recorded while spending time in numerous countries. M.I.A. produced most of its tracks with Switch; Blaqstarr, Diplo, and Timbaland also contributed. ~ Andy Kellman, All Music Guide

"Creature of the Month"

The Black Mamba

The most feared snake in southern Africa!! With an average length of 2-3 metres (max. 4,2) it's the second longest venomous snake in the world (the king cobra is the longest venomous snake in the world).

It is highly nervous and spreads a hood, gaping to reveal the jet black interior of its mouth. The venom is a potent neurotoxin, before the advent of antivenin, during the mid sixties, the bite of the black mamba was 100% fatal. Mambas are one of the fastest moving snakes in the world can slither along at an amazing 12 mph.
The black mamba is found throughout KwaZulu Natal ( and can also be found in my back garden!).
The actual naming of the black mamba is inaccurate. Most black mambas are an olive greenish, grayish brown, or metallic gray color. The reason they are called "black" mambas is because the interior lining of their mouth is jet black in color. Younger black mambas are light gray or light green in color but they will noticeably darken as they get older.

Snake Facts

MYTH: A python "crushes" its victim to death.
TRUTH: A constrictor snake does not crush its victim. It restricts its ability to breath by tigthenibg the coils around the ribcage every time the victim exhales. The victim dies of suffocation.

MYTH: Snakes hypnotise thier prey.
TRUTH: Snakes lack eyelids and thus their unblinking stare has given rise to this particular legend. Snakes cannot hypnotise anything.

MYTH: If you kill a snakes- watch out because its mate will seek you out and wreak revenge on you.
TRUTH: Sankes are solitary animals and have no mate. It is doubtful if they have a concept of death. You can rest assured no mate will "seek you out". It has no way of knowimg you killed its "mate" in the first place.

Freida Pinto

This year's highest new entry, the Mumbai model made her film debut in Danny Boyle's Slumdog Millionaire last year and rocketed straight into number two on everyone's list of favourite Indians (Sachin Tendulkar remains strong in first position, but she nudged Gandhi down to third, who can only expect to drop further if he continues his stubborn refusal to contemporise his image like Madonna does). Now BAFTA-nominated, the 24-year-old had previously been presenting a television travel show and appearing in Skoda adverts.
